Must be the cough.
She lighted another match, and then she found herself sitting under a beautiful Christmas-tree. It was larger and more beautifully decorated than the one which she had seen through the glass door at the rich merchant's. Thousands of tapers were burning upon the green branches, and colored pictures, like those she had seen in the show-windows, looked down upon it all. The little one stretched out her hand towards them, and the match went out.
The Christmas lights rose higher and higher, till they looked to her like the stars in the sky. Then she saw a star fall, leaving behind it a bright streak of fire. "Some one is dying," thought the little girl, for her old grandmother, the only one who had ever loved her, and who was now dead, had told her that when a star falls, a soul was going up to God.
She again rubbed a match on the wall, and the light shone round her; in the brightness stood her old grandmother, clear and shining, yet mild and loving in her appearance.
this story was by Hans Christian Andersen... mostly likely you forget he is the author right? but i'm sure you must have read this story at some point of your life?
you didn't? click here to read all about it (you cold-blooded person)
i choked when i read this part to my student... i don't know... just the innocent revelation by her affects me. felt like crying...but don't know for what definite reason too.. because in the end .. it is a happy ending, she gets to leave this horrible place of suffering and be with her loved ones in heaven.. very morbid but i should feel happy.. but i can't ...probably its the theme.. death always is associated to grief or i think i am really tired after all.
you see even bed time stories get to me.. i am going CRAZY!
"cher, so she died la? not true right this story?"
sigh..
"yah.. this is a fiction.. imagined.."
"you scare me leh.. you told me .. it was real"
