Reminisicing.
my parents have this nasty habit of talking to each other through me.
it damn well pisses me off.
what? suddenly i sprout an antenna and become a mobile phone? what is this? a real life example of middle management?
i am going to start charging them.
"tell him that his soup is here."
"pa. you soup is here"
"ok. i drink later"
"want to drink then drink don't want to drink pour away... always wait wait wait"
"he say he will get it la.. leave it here won't suddenly become monster right?"
"he got hear or not?"
"@#$@! you voice like thunder like that. HOW to not hear anything? !!!!"
by then my dad (that guilty person) quietly came to take that offending soup and slithered away
Rah!
anyway.. today while giving tuition.
"so i wrote the topic down alright? Write about your favourite occupations"
"ok loh"
"easy topic ok? i have faith in you"
"cher i don't want to be a soccer player liao. i want to be a manager or work in a bank like my sister. play football cannot earn money"
sigh. the time when the singaporean mentality sets in
"ok. you must still love the job you do. "
(cheesy? but i believe that but then again i might just love the job cos of the money.. ah! but that is too complicated .. he is only pri 4 .. he is at the stage where "money is good" not the "money is evil" stage)
"cher, your favourite occupation is that ..(thinks deep) archaeologist right?"
"!!!! eh.. how you..."
"you told me before what"
"hahahaha.. oh yah"
"then you tell me how your mother thinks that singapore only got chicken bones to dig and how she will only get to see you twice a year and how you may have turned into dust and she won't know"
"hahahaha... oh yah!"
i have forgotten.
totally. i remembered i once wanted to be a scientist, a chemist.
but i forgot about my archaeology dream.
i love ancient history.
things of the past. how people live. how dynasties flourish and how they fall. the customs and traditions and what each festival meant to the local people.
i am always fascinated at how people manage to live without the commodites of today.
i used to wonder what they bathe with, how they survive without electricity ?!
my pet ancient civilisation would be the ancient egyptians. the pharaohs. the mummies (YES! The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are some of my favourite shows.. HAHAHAHA!)
i thought they were pretty smart with the pyramid building and the roads construction, the women pretty clever with their cosmetics and their beliefs particularly intriguing.
as long its anything to do with ancient history i will like it. ancient rome. ancient china, the indrus and the aryans in india. the babylonians. greek mythology.
medieval england (i want to visit old castles!)..
i find modern history a trifle boring though..it was mostly about wars and in the end . it all boils down to greed of people. owning much more than they can control.
hahahaha..
and i totally forgot.
like him. i grew up and became a singaporean.
i want to earn lots of money too.
i grew up and became realistic.
there is no place for an archaeologist here.
and probably when i start studying about it i am going to hate the subject.
perharps i am making excuses?
hahahaha
i felt nostalgic and couldn't stop thinking about it.
a little sad that i actually forgot something that i once was passionate about (i can spend the whole day reading books on ancient civilisations and not get bored. i will even photocopy them!)
but mostly i am grateful to him for reminding me.
its like recovering something dear. hahaha.. my lost memory!
i shall treat him many sweets (shall be extra nice!) for his next lesson.
it damn well pisses me off.

Forgotten only meant misplaced, but if it is recovered too late for you, keep that little guy who wants to be a footballer dreaming. Who says dreams don't come true.
