sure doesn't feel like 2007

i said "happy new year" the other day to my youngest tutee. his reaction was priceless

"EH! ca eat steamboat liao ah? how come this year so early leh?"

he thought i was refering to chinese new year. this year will be later on the 19th and 20th of feb. i got it down in memory alr. my 20th birthday is coming up too.. please be prepared people. NO MORE SOFT TOYS.

and i think he is right.. i am ready to get money for doing nothing too..ooo.. and the pineapple tarts.. maybe not now.. but definitely at chinese new year.
what is new year without pineapple tarts? its like birthday without a cake? attending an exam without studying for it? it just sucks.

let's recap. shucks. i don't know how to report my day though..

let's recall memories then :)

spent my last day/first morning in church.. precious! was my first time attending a watchnight service.. i admit i was yawning during the first part but after the countdown i felt so awake. no need for loud celebrations or squeezing with the crowds or fireworks (although i wanted to see it too... hmmm) just some quiet time to get ready for a new year with a refreshed heart and mind.

then the first day.. we had a bbq at diwei's house.. woohoo! finally attended a gathering at a penthouse... how cool is that? lol.. or rather we forced him into it... he had no choice.. we (siyun and i ) planned the number of people, the place, the alcohol.. lol.. first day of the year leh...actually we don't need a reason to drink.. hahaha..

melted choc to dip the mallows in... oooo... mmmmm... which dried up because all of us were too engrossed (maybe its just me) eating mallows ... the dried up version tasted like chocolate biscuits ... nice..


.. the best food of the night... right after apple pies. how can anyone look at this not be tempted to eat it? roasted marshmallows leh~! you all don't know what you are missing... hard on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside .. and when you bite into it.. the interior just flows and melts into your mouth together with the chocolate.. real messy but aiyo.. i think i am hungry already... hahahaha..

on the 2nd .. it was tuition day aka earn money day. woohoo.. boys will be boys.. they are still cute .. wait till their exams come and i turn into a monster and they turn into a certain type of animal that has a long tail and swing from tree to tree..

and then school starts for everyone... not that it ever stopped for us... while the rest of singapore are having holidays we are still in lectures.. not complaining. the feeling of facing a new school term is bleah too... but now it seems that ever since the new year started... time really does seem to be on fast forward... tests. mocks. revisions. exams. i am worried enough to want to start studying... give me a few more weeks to really start ... hahaha

and today...i got a breather and updated my blog.. yeah!...


anyway,

say hello to "ba bao fan" aka "eight treasures glutinous rice" ...the top has raisins, chopped up dates and dried longans and some other funny things i don't really know. and the base is made up of yam with the rice sandwiched between.

but unlike the ones you usually see.. ok.. maybe not that often .. this one is supposed to be sweet... it used to be eaten only as a delicacy at the end of a wedding... my mum says its a foochow custom.. i ate the one above in malaysia.. my aunt actually brought it out from perak for us to try.. apparently not cheap.. and my mum before even tasting it or looking at it, heard the ingrediants and shot it down with a statement "chey.. glutinous rice mah.. i also know how to do."... to which my aunt say "WAH! break my heart ah... not cheap and all the way from perak leh" and proceeded to clutch at her heart.. lol.. too cute.

what my mum had in mind was the salty kind with fatty meat and chinese mushrooms and hae bi... but this was the sweet kind.

this was done by my mum when she came back to singapore.. she has this very bad habit of taking one look or one taste of food and say that she can cook it again or even better ... she succeeds sometimes but more of the times cannot really make it.



this does looks good ya? but something was missing ... actually a lot of things were missing.. there were supposed to be eight kinds but i think my mum only put 4? and she forgot the raisins...i told her that it is definitely not as good as the one bought..which she insisted that it was still not bad what?!... ok loh.. whatever she says man. i also say my burnt cupcake was nice too.. sigh... no cooks are bad ...some just find it harder to find people to appreciate their stuff ... i got to find more friends to eat the things i bake.. hmmm..


TO MELISSA... not sure if you are still reading my blog.. but in the tiniest chance that you still do.. i want to thank you for the precious gift. thanks is not enough really. sorry for being so tardy in replies ... thanks for understanding.. heeheehee.. yup.. you will understand the heex3 soon

k la... i am tired already... going to lights out soon... in say.. 45 mins after the epi of prison break.. shucks! i missed the one on tv today ... AGAIN!
